Art by Marcia - 'Birds, Herds & Curbs'

Monday, July 4, 2016

Canadian born Marcia calls the Adelaide Hills home. Formally trained in fine arts at Skidmore College in New York in the eighties, she found herself distracted over the last 25 years raising two children and following various career paths in advertising, publishing, importing and wine. Recently remarried, Marcia and her husband are rejuvenating “Inverugie Farm” near Mylor, a lifestyle that allows her to focus on her art.

Marcia has an interest in depicting urban and rural landscapes and the characters who inhabit them. Using acrylic paint, she is experimenting with her own personal style and has chosen 'cows' as subjects because she believes they must have an individual character – even though she can’t tell them apart in the paddock. The cows in this series are from the ‘Bean’ herd and have names with Bean in them – Coffee Bean, Jelly Bean, Pinto Bean, Vanilla Bean and Lima.

Marcia’s restless creative spirit keeps her on the move. A recent visit to NYC has resulted in a series of colourful streetscapes. When at home she is captivated by the brilliant colours found in Australian nature.
